Abstract: James Samuel (1822-1879) eldest son of James Edward McCubbins, migrated to Salisbury, NC from Iredell County, NC. In Rowan County, he became quite prosperous and politically active. He served as mayor of Salisbury after the Civil War and later served in the General Assembly. This collection primarily consists of business documents, receipts, and correspondence originating from the business dealings of James Samuel McCubbins (1822-1879). Collection also contains documents created by McCubbins’ son, James Franklin (1863-1923), who served as Rowan County Clerk of Superior Court from 1902 to 1923, the year of his death. James Franklin was married to Mary Louisa (Gaskill) McCubbins. Most materials originated in Rowan County and date from the 1800s to early 1900s.
